Epilepsy

Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder which causes the sufferer to have repeated and seemingly unprovoked seizures or fits. As many as 50 million people around the world suffer from this disorder caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain. While there is no known cure, 70% of Epilepsy sufferers can control their disorder and the subsequent seizures with medication.

Epilepsy seizures can be brought on by a variety of different things, strobe lighting, stress or lack of sleep, for instance. Because of the lack of warning with most Epilepsy seizures, and the danger that they can put the sufferer in, many Epilepsy sufferers can no longer drive a car. Indeed, there are a number of wide-reaching consequences on a sufferer's lifestyle.

Brain injuries suffered as a result of road traffic accidents can lead to long-term disorders such as Epilepsy. Should someone develop Epilepsy as a result of an accident or injury that was not their fault then they could well be eligible to claim compensation. There are cases where Epilepsy develops following an accident even when CT and other types of brain scans performed at the time found no abnormality. The disorder can take weeks and in some cases even years to develop, but late development does not mean that the sufferer cannot claim compensation for an accident that was not their fault. It does mean, however, that they should use a claims management company such as Claim-Easy who is experienced in handling Epilepsy claims which can be more complex than other more common personal injury claims.
