Fractures of Frontal Facial Bones

Compensation claims for personal injury arising from road traffic accidents, accidents at work or slips, trips and falls in public places can cause direct trauma to the face, resulting in fractures of the frontal facial bones. Common accidents leading to claims are people tripping on broken paving stones while carrying shopping and falling onto their face without the ability to use their arms to break their fall. Similarly, people can claim for fractured facial bones from falling over something at work, or on a wet floor, where they did not have time to protect their face on impact. Many road traffic accidents lead to high or low impact trauma to the face.

Fractures of facial bones vary as to their severity, when it comes to the pain suffered, the time taken to heal and the need for surgery. A fractured nose which heals quickly will of course cause less pain, suffering and treatment than multiple fractures of the facial bones. Therefore it stands to reason that the compensation levels awarded will be less for the fractured nose than for the multiple fractures.

Factors taken into consideration when arriving at compensation levels to be awarded include pain levels, whether there was accompanying concussion or psychological trauma, medical costs, ongoing treatment and any scarring that the victim has suffered. Facial scarring is given special consideration and even small scars that are all but hidden can give rise to compensation if they are found to cause the victim distress. If there is more severe facial scarring that requires plastic surgery, the cost of the surgery can be included in the claim in some cases.
