The shoulder is a highly vulnerable area, prone to injury given that the shoulder joint moves more than any other part of the body. Just like injuries to the back, shoulder injuries can develop over time due to repetitive strain or they can be as a result of sudden trauma. Either way, if the injury was due to someone else's negligence, then you could be eligible to claim for personal injury compensation.
Shoulder injuries include frozen shoulder (a developing condition which cause stiffness, pain and even temporary loss of movement - hence the term 'frozen'), tendon inflammation, dislocation of the shoulder and tendonitis. Sports injuries often involve the shoulder if they require over-arm action, which of course many sports do: swimming, weight training, tennis, javelin, etc.
You can also suffer a shoulder injury as a result of a sudden impact or penetrating trauma - from a road traffic accident or an attack on your person - a slip, trip and fall or in the workplace, either through an accident or through poor manual handling or repetitive strain. Just as for neck and back injuries, shoulder injuries suffered in any of these ways can give rise to a successful compensation claim if the sufferer can prove that the injury was not their fault. The amount you could be awarded will depend on your particular case and the severity and impact of the injury on your life.
